The Genealogical Society of New Jersey’s 2016 Annual Meeting features a presentation by Eric Grundset, Director of Library Publications for the DAR on Saturday, 12 November at the Alexander Library, Rutgers University, 10:30am [refreshments start at 10:15am].
Eric is starting the groundwork on the next installment of the DAR’s state research guides—and it’s about New Jersey! He’ll be giving a presentation on the various resources for Colonial era New Jersey research and answer your questions.
After the meeting, at 1pm, the Special Collections and University Archives (SC/UA) will be open to researchers. The SC/UA houses a fantastic collection of records, manuscripts, maps, ephemera, and a library devoted to New Jersey history. GSNJ’s Collections are also housed there—right next to the DAR’s New Jersey collection of research materials. Although the DAR’s records have been largely name-indexed in their online database, the original records are an excellent resource and many are typewritten inventories, handwritten transcriptions, or delightfully obscure pamphlets and publications. Also, there are plans to re-index this collection in 2017!
Admission and parking are free but, due to space planning, RSVP is a must.
